Slow

Slow is the sun rising on a January day.

It comes only briefly as if to say, “go back to bed, take a rest.

Then retreats back below the horizon to take a rest of its own.

But, while it’s here, alights on trees, the snow and sky.

Transforming surfaces into glittery reflections and thin air into rainbows.

Joyous reminders of God-breathed beauty and promises kept.

That hold fast our hope despite long winter days.

In due time, shadows lengthen, Spring awakens and rises anew.

A fresh set of wonders along with every morning dew.

The sun brings forth green grass, blooming trees and butterflies.

Then the sunset comes just as slow.
