I am a sinner. Thanks to the self-sacrifice of my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, I am redeemed. That means God will forgive my sins and I can go to heaven when I die.
But, first, I must live this life according to God’s will. Sounds simple, but it’s not. In fact, I’ve been failing for most of my life.
Because of the fall, we are all imperfect humans that have a penchant for doing the opposite of God’s will. It’s our will, not His, that takes center stage. The world tells us “it’s good” while God’s word tells us “it’s wrong.”
Disconnected
The disconnect comes when we rely on what culture tells us is fact rather than consulting God to determine the truth. The vast majority of “Christians” have not read the bible. If they have, they choose to listen to loose translations of His message that will sync with their agendas.
Thinking back, I was guilty of this. Being raised Catholic, I went to church nearly every Sunday, but would have definitely flunked a quiz on bible trivia if I took one. In case you aren’t versed on Catholic catechism, memorizing bible verses and reading the Good Book is not mandated. Until a few years ago, I had not read the bible at all when I did a “read the bible in a year” plan. Even that was a failure. Every time I got lost in Leviticus and never made it out.
Not from God
In 2020, I really started to question everything. The world seemed to flip upside down and I couldn’t determine which way was up. Things started happening that, in my gut, I knew weren’t from God. Problem was, I didn’t know any scripture to back it up.
In January 2021, I began listening to “The Bible In A Year Podcast with Father Mike Schmitz.” In December, I completed it. What I’ve learned is shocking.
I used to see the bible as a historic book that didn’t have much impact on my life, besides obvious verses on the Ten Commandments and other bible school standards. Now I see it for what it really is…the book of truth.
There are not just “quotable” scriptures that look good on jerseys. I discovered scriptures too long to quote that are filled with rich wisdom that applies to my life and yours.
There are not just the well-known stories of David and Goliath and Jonah and the whale. Stories about people whose names you don’t know that played a vital role in our history as Christians inspire me to be the best version of myself.
There are not just excerpts about the voice of God and Jesus’s parables. Passages that take us into the heart of God, our one true Father and introduce us to Jesus, face to face give us a connection with our creator.
Knowing God
We can’t know God without knowing His Word. We can’t be the hands and feet of Jesus without knowing what He did and how he got there.
I want to know more. Currently, I am listening the the BIAY podcast through a second time. I’m diving deeper into the meanings and taking notes daily. I’m also enrolled in Bible classes online. Nearly every day I read Bible verses on my Instagram page. I also am writing blogs and poetry inspired by my walk with God.
I will never know it all and will certainly fumble my way through when things get difficult. But, I promise that I will do my very best to share the truth I seek, that we all seek. The truth that will ultimately be our guide to eternal life with our Lord and Savior. After all, that is the end game, is it not?
Will you join me?
I so love this!!!
