Routine is a dirty word
for someone like me.
It’s a wonder I get anything done
with a schedule so free.
Routine-free may seem glorious
when locked down by to-dos,
but I assure you it’s a prison
a game I’m sure to lose.
Routine is “recommended”
by those whose lives run on quarter time
those who pencil in potty breaks
every single event has a line.
Routine mocks me daily
as I scramble for more minutes,
struggle for life balance
as my energy relents.
Routine gives you true freedom.
It’s what procrastinators don’t get,
if you stick to the plan
jobs get done and goals get met.
Routine is the key to time
not a thief, not a swindler.
It gives what you can’t get back
he who has routine is the winner.
