Every Spring, graduation brings a time of contemplation. Each graduate has a unique vision for the future. In fact, that’s the number one question people ask seniors, “what are you going to do next year?”
What they really mean is “what are you going to do with the rest of your life?”
Scary, right?
To think that you’re supposed to have everything all figured out when you are still just a kid?
Terrifying!.
After living a few years past my high school graduation (okay, maybe more than a few), it’s no wonder I see the same thing over and over again. Vision doesn’t match up with reality.
the missing piece
It isn’t because of the fact that there’s so much we don’t know at 18.
It isn’t because of the fact that we didn’t learn enough in school.
It isn’t because of the fact that circumstances are out of our control.
These things are all true, but there’s a missing piece.
Blurry vision
Blurry vision can only be clarified by Christ.
Living a life of purpose is what we should each have as the primary vision of our lives. Instead, many seek fame, fortune or fun. If Christ is not included in the plan, the vision falls short. Only God knows the future and if we leave Him out, we lose our way.
Unfortunately, I learned this much later in life than I wish I could have, causing me years of floundering despite my “plans.” When I finally factored in the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit things started to fall into place. My vision became clear.
Pardon my totally inappropriate, religious, graduation “speech”. Instead let me defer to the founder of vision to leave you with a little wisdom on the subject::
The human heart plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.~ Proverbs 16:9
